Bath Time

Today we gave Una her second bath. The first bath was undertaken last week with the help of our friend Laura who has 2 twin girls and a boy. I had previously attempted a bath by myself, but was too scared to really get her clean. Laura was a great help and this second time around was much easier for me because of it. Una was a real rock star and seemed to like the Washpod we just got. We really like how darn cute she is....especially in this hat made by our friend Tracy. We can't get over it.

Memorial Day

What a fabulous memorial day weekend! the weather was incredible and we tried to enjoy every minute. Ted spent most of it in the garden, ripping up grass and planting vegetables. Today, we threw blankets and pillows in the back yard and lounged and napped in the shade. It was delicious.

Our very dear friend Diane was also visiting from Chicago with her new (extremely elegant and gorgeous) significant other. We really enjoyed meeting Rubani, and getting a chance to spend some time with the two of them. We had dinner at the house, and they brought in Navarre food. How can you beat that?

I didn't get much sleep the night before and was extremely lazy today...so my apologies to my family for not calling today to see how your memorial day is treating you...but i was thinking of you all.

Fava and Firewood

So the neighbors have been asking us what's up with our yard. We planted a cover crop last fall of Fava Beans, and i just adore our Fava Forest we got going here. The plant is very attractive, with mostly white with purple flowers that look like butterflies, gets to be about 2.5-3' tall and fixes nitrogen in the soil. With all that was going on last summer and fall with the wedding and remodel, we didn't have time to landscape. That's my task for this year.

Also shown above is a cord of special cut 10" firewood (i'm including this photo mostly for my dad). A cord is a lot more firewood than i thought and so we have firewood stacked around the back of the house and the shed and some at the side door. But, at least this year we can burn real firewood in our wood stove vs. the lumber scraps from Bullseye.

Picnic and Poetry

For mother's day, ted packed us a great picnic and we went to Laurelhurst Park to enjoy it. Lots of people out. We did some serious people watching and caught a few z's before heading home. Once we got home, ted read to Una...poetry by billy collins and ee cummings...which he does almost every day. she seems to dig it.

Today is also Una's due date so she's finally full term...little stinker. we love her.

Mother's Day

I can't believe it's my very first mother's day! Kinda trippy...am i really old enough to be doing this? Here we are the day after our birthday shower, me in my eternal bath robe, and una is almost 2 weeks. She sure has grown in the last couple of weeks, phew! I think i take after my Nanny and worry way too much about too many things. thank goodness ted's job is to tell me to chill out (while he runs around the house with scissors). just kidding.

Happy Mother's day to all my fellow new mommies: Chris, Sara, Betsey, Kristin, Serra, Jenny, Chelsea and Patty. And for all of us who have recently gone through labor...a little birth story: my neighbor Gillian across the street gave birth last week to her second son Alexander, though they are calling him Sasha. He was born all naturale at home with a team of midwives, 12 hours in transition and weighing a mere 11.5 pounds...and she didn't tear. Can you freakin believe it? I'm still in awe of her!

Enjoy the day!

May Day

Each year Una's Aunt Belle participates in the Minneapolis May Day Parade...and she puts on quite a show! She is an artist who not only makes puppets and gorgeous costumes (among other notable talents), but performs as well. She also is a whiz on the stilts. Here are some photos of this year's May Day Parade with a theme based on the green economy...a wind power float with lots of green pinwheels and a tree-dragon. Aunt Belle is the stilter wearing the long skinny hat and white skirt with green pinwheels on it. She is also shown doing a controlled fall as part of a may day ceremony.  Wow!

Social Calls

We had a lovely unexpected socially packed weekend and enjoyed visits from Ms. Holly Stone, Marc and Pam, a neighbor who brought Una a present, and Chelsea, Jesse and their new baby boy Judah Preston who was born on April 24th and is way bigger than ms. una and super cute! We tried to introduce them, but they were both way more interested in their moms and their moms' boobs. Oh, did i say that?
