Me and Grandpa Tim

Book Worm

It started at the end of June with "Are You My Mother," and only seems to grow...Una's love of books, that is. Not surprising, given the Sawyers read more than any family i know. Above, Sally is reading to Una a book she used to read to Ted called, "Be Nice to Spiders."

Wallowing for Senator Kennedy

Yesterday was the funeral of Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy (an inspiration for Ted's name as he is also an Edward). We did our fair share of watching the coverage on TV, as well as taking some quiet moments to watch the light sink lower and lower across the lake. Ironically, this time of year seems to coincide with our time at the cabin and some recent big events, such as Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 Democratic Convention, where we watched Barack Obama belt out inspiration with a voice that we had not heard the likes of since the 1960's. During the 2004 convention, we also witnessed the northern lights while driving the pontoon across the lake to pick up Sally and Judy, who had arrived a few days after us. i had never seen the northern lights before and was stunned by their beauty. To me, they looked like giant green angels who were impossibly close...their long outstretched arms reaching for us...and we were filled with hope.

The Lake! The Lake!

On Friday, Una made her historic journey across Turtle Lake to the Sawyer Cabins...and she cried the whole way (only because her life preserver was squooshing her cute little cheeks uncomfortably). Una is the 5th generation to be on this land which is so dear to her daddy and the rest of the Sawyer Clan...stay tuned for more photos.

Presenting Miss Una Belle

Nana Sally threw Una her first party to introduce her to her extended family of friends here in Minneapolis...and she did it up right with lots of yummies as you can see above. We had a lovely night, spent mostly on the front porch. Una was very charming, of course, and enjoyed a reading from Bob...not as much as Suzanne enjoyed it, but i think it was a little over Una's head. However, the rest of us enjoyed watching Suzanne laugh to tears. It was also wonderful to meet some of Ted's old friends, Delia, Tove, Aislynn and their little ones. And thanks to Charlotte and Bill for the Nutshell Library which we will be taking to the lake. It's just perfect.

Welcome to MN!

We arrived in minneapolis monday evening. Anne and Jemiah gave us a warm welcome by picking us up at the airport and then buying us Thai Food for takeout. That was awesome! Thank you guys! Sally and Tim were on their way back from Seattle and so we didn't see them until then next evening after Ted, Una and i paid a visit to one of our favorite museums, the Walker. There were not any great shows, though, but i always enjoy the architecture. Above are photos of Grandpa Tim holding Una for the first time and all of us out at the Signature, a favorite restaurant in the neighborhood.
