Last Day

Una likes to hang out at the water cooler.

Cherry tobacco anyone?

"Fun-guys!"

Ok, this is seriously a fun guy.

Last sunset. Gorgeous night.

We spent our last evening with Anne and Jemiah, who came back up to the lake on thursday night. Sally and Time graciously went back to the city on friday to clean up the house and prepare for an Una party, which was awfully nice of them. What an incredible sunset! And the stars and planets were out as well. the boys could see saturn, it's rings and moons through the binoculars. Wow!

We also had a little bonding experience which involved a "crazy pipe smoker" who never actually made an appearance. After watching some animated shorts, anne and i kept smelling wafts of cherry tobacco in specific places in the cabin. It was really weird. Ted and Jemiah didn't smell it, but we spent a good amount of time wondering around, both inside and outside, trying to figure out where the smell might be coming from with no luck. And, while i don't necessarily believe in ghosts, because i have never actually seen one, it was the first thought that came to my mind. Plus, i'd way rather have a ghost in the cabin than a crazy pipe smoker on the penninsula. Who knows, Sally and i talked about it, and she says there is a logical explanation for it, but the best we could come up with was the idea of a porcupine under the cabin messing with a pipe that maybe was there from mr. tim when he smoked 30 years ago. On the other hand, I like to fancifully think it was an omen of good things to come, maybe brought to us by a loved one who has passed on.

Bye bye for now, Turtle Lake! We sure had fun!

  1. My final words on the cherry tobacco pipe smoker--it could be the fabric we used to cover the chairs, which came from a smoker household. Or it could be the fabric softener used on the throws. Or someone smoking a pipe from the bay or across the lake. There IS an explanation not involving strangers lurking on the property or a ghost. A benevolent ghost is a nice thought, though.
