We arrived at Turtle Lake just after the sky had opened up and the resulting deluge left the ground soaked. Fortunately, the rains stopped in time for us to take the boat ride to the land and unload. As soon as we piled our bags into the cabin, we immediately put on suits and walked through the woods to the swimming dock. The freshly bathed earth and trees smelled incredibly sweet, and the water is higher than both Ted and i have ever seen it. The dock appears to be skimming on top of the water, almost submerged. Una couldn't wait to get her feet wet, and didn't quite understand the concept of "Lake." So in she went, with assistance, for her first official dunking. Mom and dad soon followed. The lake is absolutely refreshing and invigorating and just the right temperature.
Ted took the above photos showing some details of the land. And then we had happy hour (wine and fritos) and a yummy dinner and toasted the brand new kitchen. It's lovely!
time for swimming lessons! of course the question still remains... will she be a lake girl (a nod to her minnesota roots), a river girl (from her Portland roots) or an ocean girl (it's hard to deny the draw of the ocean). so many choices!! xoxo
